6 April 2025

From March 31 to April 2, the 2025 Magnesium Industry Chain and Magnesium Market Forum was held in Jinhua, Zhejiang Province. The delegation was led by Fusheng Pan, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Honorary Director of the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys, Chairman of the Chongqing Association for Science and Technology, and leader of Mingyue Lake Laboratory. Other attendees included Jingfeng Wang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Materials Science and Engineering of Chongqing University, Chairman of the Chinese Committee for Magnesium and its Application under the Chinese Materials Research Society, and Executive Director of the Chongqing Institute of New Energy Storage Materials and Equipment; Yuansheng Yang, Vice Director of the Chongqing Institute of New Energy Storage Materials and Equipment; Xianhua Chen, Dean of the College of Materials Science and Engineering of Chongqing University; Bin Jiang, Executive Deputy Director of the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys; and Huan Xi, Executive Secretary-General of the Chinese Committee for Magnesium and its Application under the Chinese Materials Research Society and Head of the Strategic Cooperation Department of Mingyue Lake Laboratory.

On the morning of April 1, Academician Fusheng Pan delivered a keynote speech titled "The Important Supporting Role of Magnesium Materials in Planning Future Industries and Developing New Quality Productive Forces."

In his report, Fusheng Pan emphasized that magnesium materials are distinguished by their abundant resources, low cost, low density, excellent functional properties, and low environmental impact. They are poised to provide breakthrough and disruptive pathways for the development of China's modern industries and have enormous potential for development and application. The development of new quality productive forces in the magnesium industry is advancing rapidly and can provide important support for the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, the development of emerging industries, and the layout of future industries. The integrated linkage of magnesium materials' lightweight and multifunctional features with intelligent equipment and green energy development is expected to play an pivotal role in China's energy transition, energy conservation and emission reduction, and the enhancement of the competitiveness of intelligent equipment.

On the morning of April 1, Professor Jingfeng Wang chaired the second session of the thematic sessions.

On the afternoon of April 1, Professor Xianhua Chen delivered a special report titled "Research, Development and Application of Structurally and Functionally Integrated Magnesium Alloys."

On the morning of April 2, Professor Bin Jiang delivered a special report titled "Current Applications and Perspectives on High-Performance Magnesium Alloys in New Energy Vehicles."

On April 2, Professor Huan Xi chaired the first session of the special-topic reports. This session focused on the hot topic of the application of magnesium alloys in the automotive field and closely echoed the theme of this forum: "Magnesium for Lightweighting in Manufacturing and Empowering the Low-Carbon Economy in China."

The conference also invited Jianrong Tan, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Qiushi Distinguished Professor at Zhejiang University, and Enhou Han, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of the Guangdong Institute of Corrosion Science and Technology. They delivered keynote reports titled "Key Technologies and Development Trends in Lightweight Design and Low-Carbon Manufacturing" and "Surface Treatment Technologies and Applications of Magnesium Alloys and Their Components," respectively.

This forum was jointly organized by China Magnesium (CM) and Shanghai Metals Market (SMM), with special support from the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys and the Chinese Committee for Magnesium and Its Applications under the Chinese Materials Research Society. Over 1,000 participants attended the forum, representing government agencies, research institutions, enterprises along the magnesium industry chain, financial institutions, technology and equipment suppliers, trading companies, and news media.

The conference lasted for one and a half days and featured 23 excellent special-topic reports, covering such topics as magnesium market analysis and industry trends, efficient magnesium smelting and processing technologies, case studies on the development and application of magnesium alloys, advances in magnesium alloy materials, sustainable development of the magnesium industry, and strategies of magnesium companies. Forty enterprises from across the magnesium industry chain exhibited on site. Their products and services covered primary magnesium and magnesium alloy materials, magnesium alloy die castings, semi-solid processing products, wrought products such as profiles, sheets, plates and forgings, magnesium alloy die-casting and semi-solid processing equipment, magnesium alloy surface treatment products and technologies, as well as magnesium alloy sheet-metal and precision-machined products.
