Academic Seminar on Magnesium Hydrogen Storage Held at Chongqing University

16 May 2025

To further enhance academic exchanges and enhance research capabilities, on May 14, 2025, the Magnesium-based Hydrogen Storage Materials Research Team from the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys,Chongqing University held an internal seminar on project progress. It aimed to promote academic communication within the team, review current research achievements, and define future research directions. The seminar was chaired by Prof. Yu'an Chen, leader of the Hydrogen Storage Team, and attended by Prof.  Qian Li, A/Prof. Jia Hu, Prof. Yangfan Lu, Prof. Jianbo Li, A/Prof. Chao Ding, Dr. Shenglan Yang, as well as several graduate students.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Chen emphasized the significance of this internal exchange. He pointed out that as a key direction in the field of clean energy storage, magnesium-based hydrogen storage technology is currently at a critical stage of transitioning from fundamental research to practical application. He stressed the need for regular communication to pool collective wisdom, optimize resource allocation, and accelerate the resolution of core technical challenges.

Subsequently, the core members of the team reported their respective research progress. Prof. Chen provided an overview of the team's breakthroughs in magnesium-based hydrogen storage alloys and catalyst modification. Prof. Li presented updates on  the national key R&D project; Prof. Lu focused on the modification of Ti-Ni catalysts and related mechanistic studies; while Dr. Yang shared results on capacity prediction of Mg-Ni-Nd alloys, offering theoretical guidance for subsequent composition design.

During the discussion session, participants engaged in in-depth discussions and proposed constructive suggestions on common issues related to engineering applications, including cost control and large-scale preparation processes. In his concluding remarks, Prof. Chen noted that this seminar not only summarized the team’s phased achievements, but also clarified key research priorities for the next stage. The team will further deepen industry- university-research collaboration and promote the practical application of magnesium-based hydrogen storage technology in alignment with the China’s "dual carbon" strategic goals.
