On June 19, 2024, the Jiusan Society Tianfu Science Forum was held at the Chengdu Jinniu Hotel, where Academician Fusheng Pan of the Chinese Academy of Engineering delivered the keynote address. Weihua Wu, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, attended and delivered remarks. Zhengkui Liu and Xiaomei Liu, Vice Chairs of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, and Dan Yang, Vice Chair of the Sichuan Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Chair of the Jiusan Society Sichuan Province Commission, were among the participants.
As one of the key events marking the 40th anniversary of the Jiusan Society Sichuan Province Commission and the 70th anniversary of the Chengdu Municipal Committee of the Jiusan Society, the forum featured a keynote lecture by Academician Fusheng Pan—Chairman of the Chongqing Association for Science and Technology and Honorary Director of the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys. The forum was chaired by Qiang Xu, Vice Chair of the Jiusan Society Sichuan Province Commission and President of Chengdu University of Technology. More than 200 participants attended the forum, including the Vice Chairs of the Jiusan Society Sichuan Province Commission: Jiuping Xu, Liangyin Chu, Yuandong Su, Liping Shang, and Zhangming Chen; Secretary-General Wu Ding; and representative members. The forum was also live-streamed, with over 30,000 viewers online.
Academician Fusheng Pan delivered a lecture titled “Current Status of the Energy Structure and Prospects for Magnesium-Based Energy Materials.” He first provided a comprehensive analysis of China’s current energy structure, highlighting the challenges arising from heavy reliance on fossil fuels and underscoring the urgency of accelerating the transition and upgrading of the energy mix. He emphasized that developing new energy and new materials industries—especially by harnessing new quality productive forces—is a key pathway to drive green, low-carbon transformation in China’s energy sector and safeguard national energy security. Focusing on magnesium-based energy materials as a new high ground in international industrial competition, he analyzed their unique advantages, broad prospects, and major challenges. He noted that magnesium-based energy materials feature abundant reserves and environmental friendliness, and hold significant application potential in energy storage and lightweight applications, representing an important direction for future energy-technology innovation.
