On December 12, 2023, the Fifth Meeting of the Second Council of the Magnesium Alloy Branch of the Chinese Materials Research Society (C-MRS) was successfully held in Hebi, Henan Province. More than 100 council members and representatives from institutions including Chongqing University, Peking University Shenzhen of Graduate School, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Central South University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Jilin University, Northeastern University, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Harbin Engineering University, Zhengzhou University, Southern University of Scienceand Technology, Nanchang University, Hebei University of Technology, Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of New Materials, Guangdong Academy of Sciences, Baosteel Metal Co., Ltd., Shanxi Yinguang Huasheng Magnesium Industry Co., Ltd., Sunlight Metal Co., Ltd., Magontec Xi'anCo., Ltd., and others attended the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Professor Fusheng Pan, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chairman of the Chongqing Association for Science and Technology, President of the International Magnesium Society, and Director of the Magnesium Alloy Branch. The meeting was chaired by Professor Jingfeng Wang, Deputy Director of the Magnesium Alloy Branch and Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Materials Science and Engineering at Chongqing University.
Academician Fusheng Pan first delivered an opening speech to welcome all council members, experts, and representatives to the meeting, and expressed his gratitude for their long-termstrong support for the work of the Magnesium Alloy Branch. He briefly reviewed highlight achievements of the Branch in 2023 and looked ahead to the application prospects for the development of magnesium alloys.
Subsequently, Professor Guohua Wu, Deputy Chairman of the Magnesium Alloy Branch and faculty member of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, presented the 2023 annual work report, covering academic exchange activities, efforts in promoting high-level international journals on magnesium alloys, science popularization activities, and major awards received. He also proposed the key work plan for 2024.
The meeting conducted extensive and in-depth discussions on the 2024 key work plan and the development strategy of the Magnesium Alloy Branch. Experts including Professor Yuansheng Yang from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Rongchang Zeng from Shandong University of Science and Technology, and Professor Xianquan Jiang from Southwest University, among others, spoke in succession. They engaged in lively discussions on major research directions for magnesium alloys, measures to strengthen cooperation between the Magnesium Alloy Branch and the magnesium industry associations, key application fields, expansion of domestic and international markets, organization of scientific and technological projects, establishment of testing and processing standards, and organization of major conferences, putting forward a number of constructive suggestions. The meeting also discussed matters related to the 2024 council re-election of the Magnesium Alloy Branch and decided to establish a re-election working group for the Branch, to be led by Professor Jingfeng Wang from Chongqing University.
Finally, Academician Fusheng Pan summarized the meeting by recognizing the achievements made by the Magnesium Alloy Branch in 2023. He once again expressed gratitude to allcouncil members and experts for their contributions and support to the Branch.He emphasized that the development of magnesium alloys should be closely aligned with national strategic needs, and called on all council units to further deepen cooperation to jointly advance the research, development, and application of magnesium alloy materials and technologies.
