On August 31, 2021, Mr. Wang Xinfeng, the mayor of Lanxi City, Zhejiang Province, and Mr. Hu Zuotao, a member of the standing committee of the municipal party committee, came to Chongqing University to visit and discuss related cooperation. Professor Fusheng Pan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, chairman of the Chongqing Science and Technology Association, and honorary director of the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys (CCMg) met with the visitors. Professor Jingfeng Wang, Party secretary of the College of Materials Science and Engineering, professor Dingfei Zhang, director of the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys, and professor Xianhua Chen, vice director of the College of Materials Science and Engineering, etc.
Mayor Wang Xinfeng first introduced the current situation of Lanxi’s manufacturing industry in detail and pointed out that the current manufacturing industry in Lanxi is mainly concentrated in industries such as textiles, daily chemicals, cement, and metal rolling. Lightweight industries and energy transition industries are imperative. The governments of Zhejiang province and Lanxi City attach great importance to the development of lightweight industries. Magnesium and magnesium alloys have brought very good solutions. They hope to actively cooperate in the fields of magnesium alloy structural materials and biological materials and advance the development of magnesium hydrogen storage and magnesium batteries. Intervene and jointly promote the establishment of a high-end R&D platform in Lanxi Jinlan innovation city, injecting new vitality into the transformation of Lanxi's traditional industries and the development of high-tech industries.
Academician Fusheng Pan first expressed his gratitude to the Lanxi municipal party committee and municipal government for their attention to the cooperation between Lanxi and CCMg in Chongqing University. Academician Pan believes that lightweight and greening are national strategies, and the rapid development and large-scale application of lightweight equipment and light metal materials have become the development trend of the world's manufacturing industry. Meanwhile, from the perspectives of the resource attributes, safety attributes, environmental burdens of the current energy storage methods, and the large-scale demand for future industries, automobiles, and electronic products, a new generation of magnesium batteries and magnesium storage hydrogen materials have strong development potential. On the other hand, with the rapid improvement of people's living standards, the demand for biomedical materials is increasing. Biodegradable magnesium alloy materials are also one of the main development directions for a new generation of medical device materials. Academician Pan said that Chongqing University and Lanxi city can promote all-around cooperation in technical services, platform construction, achievement transformation, and talent training.
The two parties also conducted in-depth discussions on the direction and mode of cooperation and determined a preliminary plan for the two parties to jointly build a high-end R&D platform for magnesium-based materials.
The Lanxi municipal party committee and municipal government attach great importance to the cooperation with Chongqing University in the field of magnesium alloys. In order to study the entry points for cooperation between the two parties and discuss the cooperation framework, the main leaders of Lanxi City have visited Chongqing University many times to exchange discussions with academician Pan.
