On the morning of June 29, 2021, Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau, Aluminum Corporation of China and Chongqing University jointly held a review meeting on the construction plan of the National Innovation Center for Light Metal Technology. The meeting was held on-site in the Conference Room 319 of the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys (Chongqing University) together with online participants. The participants include academician Yong Gan (former vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering), academician Wenjiang Ding (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), academician Xinping Mao (University of Science and Technology Beijing), academician Hejun Li (Northwestern Polytechnic University), academician Shandong Tu (East China University of Science and Technology), academician Fusheng Pan (Chongqing University). Academician Yong Gan was appointed to the group leader. In addition, Mr. Xiaoyun Mou (Deputy director of Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau), Mr. Xiehua Li (President of Chinalco Advanced Manufacturing Co. Ltd.), and Prof. Ju Ming (Vice president of Chongqing University) attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Xiaoyun Mou, Deputy Director of Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau.
Deputy Director Mou Xiaoyun briefly introduced the background and progress for applying the establishment of the National Innovation Center for Light Metal Technology, and said that Chongqing city will fully support the application and construction of the center. Vice President Ju Ming (Chongqing University) emphasized that the foundation of the National Innovation Center for Light Metal Technology will be of significance to hit the "carbon peak and neutrality". He also emphasized that the university is well-prepared for providing funds and human resources in the project, citing the solid R&D and innovation capability of Chongqing University in the field of light metals.
President Xiehua Li reported on the preparatory work and progress of the National Innovation Center for Light Metal Technology, including background and demand, construction basis and advantages, general ideas and objectives, construction layout and tasks, organization and management, security measures and overall planning. Subsequently, academician Wenjiang Ding, academician Xinping Mao, academician Hejun Li, academician Shandong Tu and academician Fusheng Pan delivered comments, proposing positive ideas for the construction program. Lastly, academician Yong Gan affirms the necessity and strategic significance of the National Innovation Center for Light Metal Technology. He summarized that the center's framework is reasonable, well-directed, organization and operation management mechanisms are generally feasible, and proposed constructive suggestions to the project. After careful consideration and discussion by academicians, the group unanimously approved the proposal on the construction plan of the National Innovation Center for Light Metal Technology.
Fusheng Pan, Professor of Chongqing University, Chairman of Chongqing Science and Technology Association and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, summarized the meeting and proposed the future direction.
The success of this review meeting shows that the construction work of the National Innovation Center for Light Metal Technology has achieved a milestone, establishing a solid foundation for the subsequent stages.
