On Jun. 16-18,2021, Mg 2021(The 12th International Conference on Magnesium Alloys and theirApplications) was held online, scheduled in Canada originally. Prof. Fusheng Pan (Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), chairman of Chongqing Association for Science & Technology, vice president of China Materials Research Society) attended the conference and made a plenary talk. The conference determines the 13th International Conference on Magnesium Alloys and Their Applications will be held in Chongqing in 2024, and Academician Pan will serve as the chairman.
The conference was held online. Prof. Alan Luo from the United States and Prof. Mihriban Pekguleryuz from Canada served as the chairman. 12 plenary talks were arranged and representatives from 15 countries such as Japan, the United States, Germany, Canada, China, Australia, South Korea and the United Kingdom attended the conference, which attracted about 200 global delegates.
Academician Pan had made four plenary talks at these serial conferences. In Mg 2021 conference, he made a plenary talk with the title of " Development and applications of high plasticity magnesium alloys". The report introduced in detail the importance of developing high plasticity magnesium alloys, the new alloy design theory of " Solid solution strengthening and ductilizing, SSSD " developed by Chongqing University, and the high plasticity magnesium alloys developed based on the theory of "SSSD", etc. Associate Professor Yan Yang and Dr. Hong Yang of the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloy (CCMg) made oral talks at the conference, and Associate Professor Jiangfeng Song served as the session chair.
After voting by the conference organizing committee, it was decided that the 13th International Conference on Magnesium Alloys and their applications (Mg 2024) will be held in Chongqing, China. Academician Pan will serve as the chairman of the conference, and Professor K. U. Kainer from Germany, Professor A. Luo from the United States and Professor K. S. Shin from South Korea will serve as the co-chairmen of the conference. Considering that the International Conference on Magnesium (ICM) has been held for 7 times and is the largest international conference in the field of magnesium in the world, the 8th International Conference on Magnesium (ICM 8), originally scheduled to be held in 2023, will be held together with the 13th International Conference on Magnesium Alloys and their Applications in 2024.
