On Dec. 20, 2021, the 2021 international editorial board meeting of Journal of Magnesium and Alloys (JMA) was successfully held both online with Zoom and offline in Chongqing. Editors, youth editors and representatives from 15 countries including the United States, UK, Germany, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Canada, Israel, Poland, Turkey, Singapore, Ukraine, Czech Republic, India, China, etc. attended the meeting. Professor Fusheng Pan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, editor-in-chief of Journal of Magnesium and Alloys, president of International Mg Society and honorary director of the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys (CCMg), attended the meeting. The conference was hosted by Professor Xiaodong Peng, executive deputy editor of JMA.
Firstly, Prof. Fusheng Pan gave a welcome speech to all the participating editors, youth editors and representatives, affirming the achievements of JMA, and thanking the editors for their long-term support to JMA. Subsequently, Dr. Yan Yang, the Executive Deputy Director of Editorial Office, reported the progress and development of JMA from 2020 to 2021. With the efforts of all editorial board members and all staff in the editorial office, the number of JMA published papers has increased significantly, the impact factor has increased significantly. At present, the JMA impact factor ranks first among journals in the same field, surpassing the Acta Materialia. The publicity and promotion work has been running well.

The editorial board members fully affirmed the work of the editorial department, conducted in-depth discussions on how to further promote the transformation of magnesium alloy research, attract high-level research papers, improve the academic quality of JMA and expand the international impact of JMA, and put forward constructive suggestions. Professor K. U. Kainer, Professor Y. D. Huang from Helmholtz Zentrum Geesthacht in Germany, Professor A. A. Luo from Ohio State University in the United States, Professor A. Atrens and Prof. Mingxing Zhang from University of Queensland in Australia, Professor A. A. Kaya from Muğla University in Turkey, Professor Daolun Chen from Ryerson University in Canada, Professor Mingjen Tan from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Professor Yufeng Zheng from Peking University and Professor Enhou Han from the Institute of Metal Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc. made good suggestions on the future development of JMA.
