The 19th Chinese National Phase Diagram Conference & International Materials Design Symposium, hosted by the Professional Committee of Phase Diagram of Chinese Physical Society, organized by the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys and the College of Materials Science and Engineering of Chongqing University, was successfully held on August 27-30, 2021. Academician Fusheng Pan of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academician Guozhi Zhou and Academician Tongyi Zhang of Chinese Academy of Sciences served as honorary chairmen of the conference. Director Huaiying Zhou of the Professional Committee of Phase Diagram of Chinese Physical Society and Professor Guanghui Rao of Guilin University of Electronic Technology served as the chairpersons of the conference. Professor Yuan Yuan from Chongqing University and the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys and Professor Jingbo Li, Secretary-General of the Professional Committee of Phase Diagram of Chinese Physical Society, from Beijing Institute of Technology, served as chairpersons of the organizing committee of the conference.
The conference was hosted by the Professional Committee of Phase Diagram of Chinese Physical Society, organized by the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys and the College of Materials Science and Engineering, Chongqing University, co-organized by the Editorial Offices of International Journal of Materials Research (IJMR) and Journal of Magnesium and Alloys (JMA). The conference adopted a combination of online and offline. The main offline venue is located at Chongqing University, and there are also sessions venues in Beijing University of Science and Technology, Changzhou University, Guilin University of Electronic Technology, Guangxi University, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) and Xiangtan University. Approximately 1,000 experts, scholars and students from 6 overseas research institutes and 65 domestic research institutes, universities and enterprises attended this conference, setting a record for the largest number of participants in previous phase diagram conferences. The themes of this conference mainly included four academic topics: "The experimental determination of phase diagram, thermodynamics and kinetics", "Calculations of material thermodynamics and kinetics ", "Integration calculation of materials (first principles, molecular dynamics, phase field simulation, machine learning, etc.)" and "Applications of phase diagram and thermodynamics, and material design".
The International Forum was held on the evening of August 27, hosted by Professor Nele Moelans and Professor Yuan Yuan. The organizing committee invited six well-known scholars in the field of international phase diagram to give keynote reports: Professor Hans J. Seifert (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany) and Dr. Qing Chen (Swedish Thermo-Calc Software AB), Professor Nele Moelans (University of Leuven, Belgium), Professor Zi-Kui Liu (Pennsylvania State University, USA), Professor Alan A. Luo (Ohio State University, USA), and Dr. Shuanglin Chen (Swedish Thermo-Calc Software, LLC).
The opening ceremony of the conference and the conference plenary reports were hosted by Professor Xiaoxu Huang of Chongqing University and Professor Xuping Su of Changzhou University. The honorary chairman of the conference, Professor Fusheng Pan, chairman of Chongqing Association for Science and Technology and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a welcome speech. The chairman of the conference, Professor Guanghui Rao delivered an opening speech. Academician Guozhi Zhou (University of Science and Technology Beijing), Academician Tongyi Zhang (Harbin Institute of Technology), Professor Xianran Xing (University of Science and Technology Beijing), Professor Xingjun Liu (Harbin Institute of Technology), Professor Yong Du (Central South University), Professor Xiaoqin Zeng (Shanghai Jiaotong University), Professor Feng Liu (Northwestern Polytechnical University) and Professor Xiaoxu Huang (Chongqing University) were invited to give plenary talks, and 93 experts and scholars gave invited and oral reports. The conference set up a postgraduate forum for the first time, in which 35 postgraduates gave oral reports and 60 postgraduates gave poster presentations. The conference selected 8 excellent oral report awards and 10 excellent poster awards for graduate students.
The conference is a very successful academic conference. The number of presented scholars and the level of attention are unprecedented, and the reports made by experts, scholars and students are also very exciting, highlighting the current status of phase diagram research in our country and the focus of future research work. The conference provided a great academic exchange platform for domestic phase diagram researchers and scholars in related fields, which effectively promoted the discussion and exchanges among experts, young scholars and students in the field of phase diagrams, and contributed to the further research and development of phase diagrams. The conference believed that our country already has an internationally leading research team in the field of phase diagram research with the spirit of exploration and innovation, fruitful scientific research results, and wide acclaim in the academic world. It is worth mentioning that many young phase diagram researchers have emerged in this conference, which has continuously strengthened the phase diagram research team of our country.
