On December 20th, 2021, the 3rd meeting of the 2nd council of Chinese Committee for Magnesium and its Application (CCMA), Chinese Materials Research Society (C-MRS), was successfully held through the combination of offline and online. The offline meeting was set in Chongqing. The meeting was hosted by CCMA and organized by CCMg (National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys, Chongqing University). More than 100 associate members and experts from Magnesium Innovation Center of Helmholtz Zentrum Geesthacht, Germany), University of Queensland, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Chongqing University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Institute of Metal Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Northeastern University, Central South University, Zhengzhou University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Jilin University, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Ocean University of China, Beijing University of Technology, Nanchang University, Taiyuan University of Technology, Xiamen University, Harbin Engineering University, North University of China, Shanxi Yinguang Huasheng Magnesium Co., Ltd., Beijing Satellite Factory, the 5th Institute of Aerospace 518 of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, No.52 Institute of China North Industries Group, Chongqing Yuhua New Materials Co., Ltd. etc. attended the meeting. Prof. Fusheng Pan (Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, chairman of Chongqing Association for Science and Technology, vice director of C-MRS, chairman of CCMA and editor-in-chief of Journal of Magnesium and Alloys (JMA)) attended the meeting and the meeting was presided over by Prof. Jingfeng Wang (vice chairman of CCMA, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Materials Science and Engineering, Chongqing University).
Prof. Fusheng Pan delivered a welcome speech to welcome all members and representatives to the meeting, thanked all members for their long-term strong support for the work of CCMA, and briefly described the highlights and achievements of CCMA in 2021. Prof. Xianhua Chen, secretary general of CCMA, summarized the main work of CCMA in 2021. Subsequently, the meeting announced the addition of Prof. Wei Liu from Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Prof. Chao Xu from Harbin Institute of Technology, Prof. Hui Yu from Hebei University of Technology and Prof. Yuan Yuan from Chongqing University as new members of CCMA. Prof. Xiaodong Peng, executive deputy editor of JMA journal, introduced the development status of JMA, the publication, publicity and platform construction of the journal, and the new strategies for the development of JMA journal in 2022.
Prof. Yuansheng Yang (vice chairman of CCMA, researcher of Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences) presided over the discussion on the work plan and the development of CCMA in 2022. Prof. Shaokang Guan (vice president of Zhengzhou University), Prof. Wenbo Du from Beijing University of Technology, Prof. Zhiwei Shan from Xi'an Jiao Tong University, Mr. Chunming Dong (general manager of Sunlight Metal Consulting Co., Ltd.), Mr. Huan Xi (secretary general of ISO magnesium and magnesium alloy International Standardization Committee), Prof. Hongzhi Cui from Ocean University of China, Mr. Jin Yang (general manager from Chengdu Sky Fuel Control Technology Co., Ltd.), Prof. Qichi Le from Northeastern University, Prof. Guohua Wu from Shanghai Jiaotong University and Dr. Weineng Tang (senior director researcher from Baosteel Metal Co., Ltd.) provided suggestions on how to strengthen the contact and collaborations between CCMA and the magnesium industry associations, promote the popularization of magnesium alloy. The solution of the problems faced by magnesium alloy engineering applications, and the active role of CCMA in the link between universities, research institutes and leading enterprises have been discussed. Good constructive suggestions were also put forward.
In the concluding marking, Prof. Pan Fusheng put strengthened the specific requirements for the work of the council from the aspects of innovative academic exchange work, the increase efforts of science popularization, the promotion of the solution of bottleneck problems in the field of magnesium and the establishment of several directional working committees.
